Hey there! I finally decided on what characters I will make, but now I have some questions.

I want to make a NE hunter and a NE rogue. In modern WoW leveling is way different since you can go to different zones to do quests or just do only dungeons or bgs. But will I able to go to other zones to level my char in Classic? For instance, is it possible to finish the starting Teldrassil zone and then go to Westfall to level further? I wouldn't want to get bored playing the same zones on the second character.

And the other thing. Will I be able to choose a realm when Blizzard open pre-creation of characters of august 13th?

Part of the fun of Classic WoW is going back through the same zones each time you level a new character. You learn the zones better each time, develop fond memories, and enjoy revisiting them like an old friend. Turn up the music so you associate the sounds with each zone, and you will have a mini nostalgia moment when you come back to it a few months later.

I think Westfall is from lvl 10ish so if you are level 10 when you leave Teldrassil it shouldn't be a problem. I think you can take a boat from Darnassus to Stormwind then run from there.

Hey there @Kuro.

In modern wow every zone is scaled to your level (not sure if it's scaling down or up though), this is not the case in Classic. Every zone has a set level (Teldrassil is levels 1-10 I imagine, and westfall is 10-20 probably.. never played ally on Vanilla so can't be sure).

However most likely you will not be leveling in the same zone for 10 levels straight. This is because quests will lead you to all over the world. If I have to give an example from the Horde:

Undead leveling can be something like:
- 1 to 10: Tirisfal Glades. However you'll likely visit Undercity for few quests, or even take the zeppelin to go to Orgrimmar / Durotar.
- 11: You can either go to Silverpine Forest, or start on the Northern area of barrens, slowly making your way to Crossroads (also in Barrens). From there some quests will take you to Stonetalon mountains, while some will take you to lower parts of Barrens or even Mulgore. You can go back to Orgrimmar to do your first dungeon (Ragefire chasm) around level 12-13, and then go back to Silverpine Forest and continue there.
- Around level 16 or 17, you have tons of quests for the first "actual dungeon" Wailing Caverns. You have quests in Ratchet, Thunder Bluff, Undercity, Barrens and what not. You can also start heading to the stonetalon mountains and do the few quests in the "in between area of barrens and stonetalon mountains".
- Around level 20 you can go to Ashenvale, but you will probably be a bit low. You can go to Stonetalon mountains and start making your way to the middle of the map, unlocking few quests as you go, and doing all sorts of shenanigans. After few levels you can go back to Ashenvale, which will make you go to Orgrimmar for few quests, or Thunder Bluff.
- Around level 25 you get Shadowfang Keep, a dungeon in the lower parts of Silverpine forest. There are also elite quests around that level, which give some nice XP if you get a group together.
- Since you are close to it, why not try Hillsbrad Foothills? The introductory quests are level 25 ish, but the main storyline is far too hard for that level. So you unlock few flight paths, and go back to Ashenvale's western part, or stonetalon mountains' northen area.
- Once you are close to level 30, you can continue in Hilslbrad foothills, or go BACK to barrens and do Razorfan Kraul. After that you can use the great lift and head over to Thousand Needles.

This goes ON and ON. While zones indeed have a level gap (20-30 for Hillsbrad), you won't get to level 30 if you just stay in Hillsbrad starting from level 20. You go ALL OVER the world, exploring unmarked quests, finding chests, getting ganked, ganking, finding random encounters, doing escort quests and what not.

Conversely, this also means that if you grind a bit, you can skip a zone so you can do it on your second character.

And yes, you will be able to choose a realm when Blizz opens the servers for name reservations. We expect the names of realms to be available somewhere this week (unconfirmed).

Welcome to barrens.chat!

Yes you can basically skip the zones you don't want to do but make sure that the zone have appropriate level quests

The way as a NE to Westfall is kinda long.

Yeh, gotta do the wetlands or STV death run. Wetlands being the better choice so you can get relevant low level flight paths of Wetlands, Loch Modan, IF and Stormwind on you travels to Westfall.

Deathrun means dying from high level mobs and then resurrecting a bit further every time? Well I think it's still worth it :D

You might die a few times on the way through Wetlands to Ironforge but it is fine. I do this run as NE every time. I wanna play through all the NE starting zones such as Teldrassil, Darkshore and Ashenvale but I also wanna run Deadmines at least once so I will have to do the run to Stormwind anyways.

Ah yes maybe the added Darnassus/SW in later patches?

Boat to Menethil Harbor then run to IF, take tram to SW then run from there. If you don't play at start (Wait a couple of weeks) you might be lucky finding a mage in Darnassus who can make you a SW portal for cheap.

This run takes about 25mins from darnassus to goldshire, its defo not bad :p I think I died once or twice to a crocodile hiding in the bushes and the second death brought me forward so I just ress sickned.

If I die in a new zone will I be able to res on a new nearest graveyard? And can I res on the graveyard spot itself in vanilla?

Yes you can res in a place you haven't been before and yes you can res on the spot with the spirit healers. The only difference between classic and modern there is not teleport to graveyard, so if you start your death run you had better finish otherwise you're running back to the spirit healer.

The teleport back is really useful because I always end up getting stuck when I'm dead

The darnassus > stormwind trip isn't that bad. The only vulnerable part is running through the wetlands as a low level character, but the rest of the trip is inside low level zones and the deeprun tram. You can probably get to westfall in 30 minutes after dieing a handful of times to alligators in the wetlands. No problem.

One of the designers Kevin Jordan had a running gag that crocolisks in Wetlands should drop Night Elf body parts because of how horrible that run is.

I believe only Chuck can move from place to place with no concern of dying because he is Chuck. Everyone else will run run run die....run run run...rez....run run run...die again...etc. etc. But getting to another zone is a rewarding feeling after all that running, plus you never know what you might find along the way. Yes you can quest with one character in all the starting zones of your faction if you want to and can make it to them at the low level to do so.

Nope, Stormwind Harbor doesn't exist. ;)

Teldrassil has always been the zone for me. I move all my level 1's there and start from there, I then mix darkshore and westfall quests together depending on my level and the difficulty of the quests. The problem I sometimes get though is a full quest log.

Teldrassil untill level 12, or close to it, then start darkshore or make the pilgrimage to lochmodan/westfall.

Westfall is always packed and on release I imagine it will be a nightmare. It was one of the first zones designed, I honestly think darkshore is miles better to level in, and most people won't go there as it is out of the way for 3 out of 4 races on alliance.👍

Keep that to your self though 😏

Thats a really cool thing about old WoW, the fact that you needed to plan the trips, a true nerd experience :()
