So to preface this I want to say that I am a horde main. I got a main horde druid on Incendius, currently farming Ony and MC each week. He's my baby.

But I've always wanted to play a pally. I don't know why, but I love pallys so much. I know they aren't the best in vanilla but it was my original main back in the TBC/WotlK days and really wanted to roll one again.

However, I know at some point in a couple years or even a year maybe (?) they will release TBC because it just makes more fiscal sense to do that than Classic+. Should I just wait to roll a BElf paladin when that happens or should I make one on another server during my downtime?

The only problem I have with this (and sorry for the long post) is that it seems kind of... like a waste of time almost. Like, I would much rather level an alt on the same server as my main so they can have a symbiotic relationship and can funnel gear/gold to each other. Should I just roll something on my main server and wait for TBC for a paladin, or should I just bite the bullet and level a paladin now and maybe server/faction transfer (if they allow that in the future)?

Also, I have been doing some research and it seems like to play at peak pally performance (mainly for a reckoning build) you need to spam a start/stop attack macro. This doesn't seem too fun to me honestly. And it's the spec that I'd want to play. So I guess I'm just looking for some tips, suggestions, or some friendly help from my barrens brothers.

At this point I'd say wait for TBC. Level an alt on your own server. You can already tank and heal as a Druid, so maybe give a pure DPS class a shot.

And yeah, Blood Elf Paladins are the best.

Well, it depends. Do you want to play a pally right now or not?

Well yes, but in the back of my mind I will keep telling myself that I SHOULD be leveling something on the same server as my main so they can funnel gear and gold to each other. I guess I was just looking for some compelling arguments against leveling something on a different server and faction as your main.

Cons to making an alt on a new server: none of your server friends are on that server, your guild isn't on that server, you can't twink out your all with early gold and bags

Pros to making an alt on a different server: You can play paladin, you can make new friends, you can play paladin.

If you're farming MC and Ony then you're about ready to start raid logging anyway. Sounds like it's time to start a paladin alt and see how things go.

The thing is, since you main horde, you have no options other than to roll on a new server if you want to play pally. That's why I'm saying it literally just comes down to whether you want to play a pally right now. Sure it might be less efficient to roll on a new server, but you have no other options lol.

I'm with pip, if you are treated logging anyways I would absolutely roll that new pally about without a second thought.

Hey there horde brother!

Don't let them lure you to the wrong faction. I also like to play paladin, but I just had one on a pserver and it's not worth it in vanilla.

You are a decent healer for single target healing and have amazing, though annoying raidbuffs (have to rebuff every 5-15 minutes) but that's it. The inability to AOE geal really shows later. Don't let the esfand crowd confuse you with videos in AQ40 gear: there is no specc other than holy. Also, engineering is mandatory to fix your inherent class weaknesses.

TBC and especially blood elves with seal of blood fix so many issues for paladins, that can be optimal in every specc then, that it's definitely worth waiting for it.

In addition, never leave your server if there isn't a pressing reason to do so. Getting help from your guild or your etablished characters is so good, especially in vanilla, where leveling can be quite time consuming.

You play one of the more demanding classes as a druid, which form do you like the most? That can be a hint to which alt you could play. I can suggest a mage, because he is easy to learn and can farm and level like a madman. Also if a you like a more demanding class, hunter is a good choice for that. I find physical classes easier to gear, but in the end it's your choice!

Pallies right now arent like pallies in TBC. Just keep that in mind, if you play a pally now and don’t like it, try again during TBC

How are paladins now, not like pallies in TBC? As far, as I cant tell they're the same, it's simply the barrier of entry is easier.

Quite a bit was changed with Paladins in TBC. Ret became much more powerful with Crusader Strike at the bottom of the ret tree, giving them an instant attack (FINALLY! even though the spell was originally planned for vanilla, they never implemented it for some reason). Holy Shock was changed to a 15 second cd instead of a 30 second cd, making way for the awesome Shockadin spec everyone knows and loves. Consecration was made baseline and no longer a holy talent. The Lightt's Grace talent was also stupid good, giving a 100% chance to reduce casting time of Holy Light, allowing you to actually cast Holy Light in raids instead of just spamming flash of light. Prot was actually a viable tank spec, giving paladins an actual taunt, not to mention Avengers Shield is dope for just about everything. Ardent Defender was another amazing prot talent that will save your ass so many times. Seal of Blood (horde exclusive spell) was absolutely bonkers for dps, not needing to use Seal of Casino or any lesser seal for damage. What else am I forgetting... I'm definitely forgetting a lot, it's been a while since I've played a TBC paladin. Honestly, TBC and WotlK paladins were the peak of paladin performance, and THAT really is the paladin that I want to play. Vanilla paladin is still great, don't get me wrong... but damn do I miss me some blood elf TBC paladin.

Either way, TBC made paladins more of a threat. In vanilla paladins feel like the ULTIMATE support but they don't feel too threatening otherwise. Sure you can do some nice stuff with reckoning and deep ret, but it's really nothing that great. Their support is where they shine.

But in all honesty, in TBC although ret's dps got bumped up so did everyone else's. In the end, ret ends up being the same as it was in classic in terms of class average dps position.

Yea, I guess technically prot paladins can tank effectively, but they are the only tank that it costs money to be able to tank effectively. But yea, I guess you are right about ret paladins. But either way, shockadin was the absolute shit, one of my favourite specs for sure, save of course resto druids. Damn they were fun in arenas and bgs.

Yeah, a healing paladin in arena pvp could put out some serious damage by aligning trinket+holy shock+divine+sotc+weapon swap.

If you're okay with healing in raids then sure, go ahead. Otherwise, I'd wait.
