Let's say that Classic is a huge success and Blizzard tries to add a shop. The shop on Retail is quite popular. Assuming this was added, what items could be in a Classic shop that would not destroy the integrity of Classic?

Obviously, if Baron Rivendare's Charge was in the shop, the obviously wouldn't be acceptable. What about something like pets? If you could buy Cap'n Crackers or Whomper, would that be much of an issue?

Let me remind some of you, Vanilla WoW did have paid servers transfers. You can't blame a company for trying to monetize their game further, you can only blame them if they ruin the game.

Any cash shop is unacceptable. Their monetization is the monthly game fee. This game is not free to play, microtransactions are unacceptable.

I would personally be fine with all customization/server options in the shop.

Things such as:

  • Realm change
  • Race change
  • Appearance change

only things that would have little to no impact on the game itself.

The whole point of Classic is that you obtain all the cool items through actually playing the game (and making an effort). It'd be a disgrace to the design philosophy if lets say they added a bunch of pets in that you had to buy with IRL cash when they could have had them be obtainable through in game effort. (But I am confident they won't do this.)

Only what you mentioned like character transfers could be remotely feasible and not ruin the integrity of the game. The WoW token exists already yes, though it not being obtainable through playing classic is the main reason why that won't affect things.

I'd prefer no shop but I think that goes without saying. I'm usually only concerned with pay-to-win elements being added. Character boosts would piss me off for obvious reasons. I think the token may end up being a reality later on and would understand their reasons for using it. As far as pets and titles and silly shirts and goofy tabards, I could give two shits, the players will still take the same amount of shots to the face to die, they will just look a bit sexier during their death animation.

I mean... I hadn't considered these as 'cash shop' features. I could live with these. These aren't really gameplay features, they're more administrative things. I'd be completely fine with paid options for these.

Wouldn't you technically have to pay cash for these

I see this happening eventually, it's just a reality of games these days. If Classic is even a tiny bit popular, they will want to slip in as many microtransactions as they can simply because there are those that will pay for them. Companion pets, tabards, those are totally fine. Mounts? As long as you still need to buy the mount skill to use it (or if they are the "this mount changes based on your riding skill" variety), and they aren't overpowered for vanilla (no repair/vendor/waterwalking/etc. mounts), those are fine too. Nothing that gives a gameplay advantage (mounts would be the limit - somebody spending $20 instead of 100g for an exclusive epic mount wouldn't be the end of the world).

Transfers (with restrictions) and appearance changes are almost guaranteed, because it is such easy money for Blizzard. The only way I see Tokens coming to Classic are in the rare circumstance that a) Classic is super crazy popular (1 mil+ active players 4-5 months in maybe) and b) Gold sellers/bots/hackers are running rampant and operating on a level that Blizzard can't devote the required resources to fight them. If only one or the other is true, everything is fine as far as Blizz is concerned.

Seeing something that's toxic to the growth of a game and saying "it's just how it is" is the exact opposite of how we should be thinking. I'm sure you didn't mean it this way but any sort of monetization to the game, besides the subscription, can only hurt it. Race, name are both bad. If I recall, Blizzard would let people server change, but even that I think is a bad idea.

I’d love to have a barber shop in Classic

Man, RedRedridgeGnoll really really wants Classic to be more and more like retail.

I still blows my mind that he really wants these retail things in Classic instead of just being a typical forum troll.

And before you think of something along the lines of "It's just a hypothetical question!". The fact that you're asking about it in the first place means you're actively thinking about it.

Stop sucking on the tit of Blizzard. Go earn your pets and your mounts. Feel the satisfaction of a job well done where you accomplished something other than opening up your wallet.

Any hint of the cash shop as it is in retail seeping it's way into classic would almost immediately blow up in Blizzard's face.
I severely doubt they would do this though, they've poured in so much effort to make it an authentic vanilla WoW experience, just to then turn around and take a dump on it.

Let's just say no to that idea. Play retail if you want a shop it's already there. Funny how people can't figure out why we really want to go back and play classic WOW. It's to get away from all the crap that's been added over the years that ruins the feel of the game.

I agree that race/appearance and to some extent server changes could be useful in the future. I'm looking forward trying to get a server with 50/50 pop for balanced world PvP and if it becomes 30/70 in a matter of 3 months its gonna get sad for both sides.

But it makes me kinda scared for servers on the verge of dying or imbalanced, since server transfers will obviously accelerate their death.

Nothing would be acceptable for me personally.
Unfortunately with the way the company seems to be going, tokens or some other form of monetisation seems less unlikely by the day, which would be a shame because it could end up more damaging in revenue lost from people unsubscribing as well as being extremely damaging to the integrity of the game & the economy.

That's a tricky one.

When you create your character, he/she is going to have that same face and hair style permanently. There's probably 5-6 hair styles per character and 5-6 hair colours, If you get to level 30 and think " I hate this hairstyle." you would have to make another character again.
I think a barber shop would be nice but it would t ake away classic.

No In-game shop is not acceptable, I am sick of Blizzard cramming all these sales and meaningless items that I do not want to buy on my game launcher AND the game itself...

It wouldn't be the end of the world if this was added but a big part of Classic was your reputation on the server.

If you're scamming people or generally being a dick then people would find out pretty quickly and you'd have a hard time finding groups, so name changes do have a slight impact on the game.
